So when I first became unemployed, and even before then when I was just planning to be unemployed, I made a promise to myself that I would make my blog a real thing. I would post every day and comment on other people's blogs and build some sort of internet/blog life. Okay, well, that's not going to happen. I don't have time to read my emails everyday, let alone type posts about what is happening in my life AND read about what is happening in other people's lives. I mean, I don't even read DOOCE's page anymore and that used to be what I did every single day, first thing, at work.
But, so, I was just looking through my old favorite online journals and websites and felt nostalgic. I felt that old pang of jealousy and unfulfilled inspiration that I used to get from reading about other people and all the great stuff they're doing. I am doing great stuff too and have great ideas! I just don't share them on the internet. So, here is a really short version of what I have been doing. Now everyone (ummm... Technically, no one) can see why I don't use my blog. Because I ain't got the time.
I have been:
-going to school full time, taking 4 classes and doing all of the assignments and crap for all of them.
-putting in mandatory hours helping out an art teacher at a local charter school for my elementary methods class.
-putting in mandatory hours helping out with a class of 8 year olds at the art museum for my elementary methods class.
-running an after school art class, in the ghetto, twice a week for 10 kids between the ages of 7 and 12.
-teaching the 6 year old painting and drawing class at fleisher on saturday mornings
-taking a free business course on business planning and doing 10 hours of homework a week for it.
-working on the shop's business plan despite the fact that my business associate is an extremely sickly rock star who has been on tour for weeks and then comes back and cannot seem to not have pneumonia or a migraine or a stomach flu or dizzy spells or some sort of crazy disease that makes her go to the hospital...
-NOT drawing and sewing and keeping up a blog and reading and relaxing and doing all of the stuff I promised myself i would do and my funtime called "Unemployment" is half over.
-on a positive note- i am so busy and overwhlemed doing things i really want to do. i will be done with school next spring. i am enjoying all of my classes. i love teaching the kids and am getting really comfortable with it. i am sooooooo close to being ready to open a shop that it is a little scary. maybe, once the summer roles around, and i am sitting in my very own store, i will have time for reading and sewing and drawing and writing a blog on the internet. we'll see!! i'll keep you posted.
